Orthodox Christmas

 Christmas Day in the Russian Orthodox calendar falls on January 7 between New Years and Christmas, the public spaces of Moscow and St. Petersburg are elaborately decorated with lavish decorations and illuminated Christmas trees, and the streets and parks are filled with fairs and Christmas markets.  Explore our Russia Winter Tour to dive headfirst into the high points of this snowy getaway.  On Christmas Eve you have the opportunity to attend a traditional midnight mass in a beautiful candlelit Russian church.

New Year Celebrations

 New Years is the most important holiday in Russia. It takes place between Dec 31 to Jan 1. It's celebrated between family members. On New Years eve, relatives gather in a house in which they have a big feast and open gifts around the fir tree. There are lots of Russian party decorations everywhere. In Moscow, the celebration includes a firework display in the Red Square. Huge fireworks are launched over the Neva River. After midnight, people gather in parks and squares to drink, dance and continue partying.

Tatyana's Day

Probably one of the least amazing of them is Tatyana's day or student's day, the name comes from Saint Tatiana. And though starting in Moscow, it has spread arround other universities.    This holiday conmemorate the foundation of the Moscow State University and comes the 12th of January Julian, 25th of January in gregorian calendar. This day start with the church of the university tradicional service follow by some speeches and awarding of prizes. The rest of the day, the students go into parties or public events to enjoy the day.
